We certainly have had a lot of changes in our Province, with the Provincial election, the stepping down of our Prime Minister, and the call for the Federal Election taking place at the end of April – all the while the back and forth of the US tariffs. I certainly had a hard time keeping track of what was going on.
This blog is going to expand on my last topic regarding the company key for Corporations and requirement to have that key to file or make changes to Corporations.
As part of our Annual Compliance for Minute Books that we maintain is the filing of the Annual Return. As we do not have the company key for the majority of our clients, we knew that this task could take some time. That said, the Ontario Business Registry certainly made it quite clear and easy on how to obtain that key and even published a “How To” on obtaining the company key with a link that would take you where you need to go. Our office was able to easily assist our clients, and as this is only a one-time process, it really wasn’t too cumbersome.
As with every change, there were still a few who did not understand the need to file Annual Returns. Our offices took the time and talked them through the differences between Annual Returns and Tax Returns, and the changes that occurred on October 19, 2021 (anyone else have that date stuck in their brain?). We walked them through on how they could obtain the key, even offered to obtain the key on their behalf, and ensuring someone would be filing the Annual Returns for them.
All of the above is being completed in a timely fashion, all the while working within the flat fee that our offices charge for Corporate Annual Compliance.
