Progress is great, until it’s not. I absolutely love the ability to do many things online that we used to have to stand in line for in person: it’s a time-saver. However, many online legal services lead business owners to believe they can save money by clicking a button instead of retaining a lawyer. That’s usually not how it works.
I don’t blame business owners who go to incorporation websites and, after reviewing the offerings, think that incorporating online on their own is as easy as booking an Airbnb. It’s not, and inevitably the work needs to be redone by a law firm, resulting in zero savings and often costing twice as much.
I also don’t blame business owners who go to HR support websites, thinking they are protected from litigation by contracts prepared by a company. Having reviewed many of these, the sad answer is that these contracts are often “not a contract,” and the employer has significant legal exposure when they terminate.
Ultimately, working with a business law firm that understands your budget constraints and can develop a plan to address business issues at reasonable rates is the best way to protect your business and focus on growth. Our firm has flat rates for many business law needs, such as employment agreements, incorporations and shareholders’ agreements, so that we can do just that.
Rather than clicking on an online service, give us a call and let’s talk about how we can work together.
